for an orderly U.S. Exit from Iraq

Because I share the concern of my elected members of Congress for the safety of the men and women serving in the U.S. military in Iraq and of all Iraqis,

I call upon my U.S. Senators ________________ and _______________ ,

and my U.S. Representative ________________ , to state their firm commitment to oppose any funding for the U.S. military presence in Iraq

until the United States ---

1) declares it shall not establish any military base in Iraq;

2) declares it shall relinquish all sovereign control to a legitimate Iraqi government, including control over all of Iraq’s natural resources; and

3) announces a plan for orderly withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Iraq.

BACKGROUND: Today the whole world is puzzling over this question--how to stop the horrible violence in Iraq, for which there seems no end. The people and agencies listed below are working vigorously on concrete steps which might be taken--economic, military, and political--to reduce the violence. They are cited here for your information. They are not co-signers, at this moment [7/4/06], of the new, "The Patriotic Initiative," but it is hoped that this initiative will aid their efforts.
